Forest Stewardship Council® Recognizes Forest Champions

Award Highlights Our Company’s Enduring Commitment to Responsible Forest Management

CHICAGO – Forest Stewardship Council, the world’s most trusted forest certification system, announced its 2018 FSC Leadership Awards in a celebration to be held in conjunction with the Greenbuild Conference. Recognizing enduring commitments to forest conservation, the Awards highlight the people and companies whose work demonstrates uncommon excellence in the field of responsible forest management.

“FSC received an unusually large number of Awards submissions this year, which indicates the high level of enthusiasm, passion, and progress that powers FSC’s growth today,” said Corey Brinkema, President of the Forest Stewardship Council U.S. “This year’s winners demonstrate that we can in fact conserve forests even as we use forest products in our businesses and our daily lives,” he added.

FSC Leadership Awards celebrate forest owners, builders, architects, retailers, paper mills, manufacturers, environmental organizations and many others who contribute to the movement toward responsible sourcing and forest management.

Winners of the 2018 FSC Leadership Awards included Certified Wood Products, Inc. for its pioneering efforts supplying FSC-certified building materials to construction projects across the United States and Canada for more than 17 years. Award Recognizes Our CEO’s Accomplishments, Leadership, Contributions to the Community and the Promotion of Free Enterprise in the Construction Industry.

Certified Wood Products is a national wholesale supplier of forest products that are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). That means the growers and harvesters the company works with must protect animals and water quality, ban hazardous chemicals, minimize clear-cuts, protect old forest growth, protect natural forest cover and forbid illegal logging.

Our former CEO, Diane Haugen had a focus on sustainability and stewardship of forests that was exemplified by supplying FSC-certified wood. As you might imagine, it’s easier and cheaper to skip that certification. But every year, Certified must pass a demanding certification audit in order to continue supplying FSC-certified wood. Orders are used for building structures including commercial, institutional, educational, medical, recreational and governmental use.

Certified Wood Products understands the importance of quality and integrity. She and a partner started Certified 20 years ago with an eye on their values as well as on making a living. That meant seeking out responsible users and connecting them with responsible producers.

She appreciates the work ABC’s does to help members develop people, win work and advocate on our behalf for free enterprise in the construction industry. Haugen especially appreciates the patriotism exemplified by ABC. Her company takes advantage of ABC’s training programs, structured networking events and has sponsored many events and meetings.
